FHS Summer School Student Expectations

STUDENT CONDUCT

Any violations or behavior which would otherwise be punishable by suspension (in-school or out of school) will result in the student’s immediate removal from the summer session.  Since time in summer school is limited, the teachers or administrators may not be able to make parental contacts concerning your child’s behavior. So, these rules and regulations will serve as your child’s first and only warning. Please discuss with your child about the importance of their behavior and to take advantage of this opportunity that has been made available to them.

ATTENDANCE

A student with two absences during the summer session will be dropped from the course.  Absence due to an emergency in the immediate family will be considered on a case by case.   A student who fails to report to class after the morning, lunch or afternoon break will be counted absent.

Three tardies constitute one day’s absence; six tardies will result in the student being dropped from summer school.

Since there is not a full staff during the summer, phone calls to the parents about their child’s attendance or tardies may not be made. So, please discuss with your child the importance of being on time and present during summer school.

Students attending STAAR EOC remediation must attend the session that they registered for.

All students must be in dress code compliance according to the FISD dress code policy.  Any student who violates the dress code policy will be removed from the Summer School Program.

FACILITIES

All FMS facilities are off limits to students during summer school, other than their assigned classrooms.

All students must leave the campus as soon as their class ends. Students will not be allowed to wait for other students or be in any other area of the high school campus.  If a student is in violation, they will be removed from summer school.

Students will not be allowed to leave campus for lunch.  Additionally, parents will not be allowed to drop off lunch for students due to the limited summer staff.

CELLUAR PHONES

Cellular phones must be turned off during the class time.  If they are used, they will be taken up and returned to the parent if requested or at the end of the Summer School Program.  Continuous violations will be dismissal from summer school.

GRADES/REPORT CARDS/COURSE COMPLETION

A progress report will be emailed on Thursdays.  Final grades of Pass (“P”) or Fail (“F”) will be given for all summer school courses.   Summer school courses will be computer based.  Course completion depends on the students’ pace and dedication.  Students must be on task and focused in order to earn credit during summer school.  Students who are off-task run the risk of not regaining credit.
