Female Student of the Month – September
Julianna Renee Castro, the 17 year-old daughter of Joe and Yvonne Castro, is the September Student of the Month. Julie, as she is known to family and friends, is very active at FHS participating in Varsity Volleyball playing as defensive specialist and outside hitter and receiving Honorable Mention and All-Tournament recognition in 2015-16. She is also an active member of the Varsity Soccer team playing forward and being recognized as All-Academic All-District and Honorable Mention. In addition to her athletic career at FHS, Julie plays club volleyball. She would like to continue to play volleyball at the collegiate level.
In her spare time, she participates as a referee for the Boys and Girls Club and has spent her weekends leading up to the Peanut Festival hanging peanuts downtown. She is currently a Co-Op student working in the FHS office. Julie’s strengths are: Includer, Adaptability, Positivity, Arranger and Context.
Her plans after graduation are to attend either Texas State University, TCU, or Texas A&M – San Antonio. She would like to join the military after college and pursue a career in Radiology.
Male Student of the Month – September
Jared Labus, the seventeen year-old son of Gordon and Rose Labus, is our Male Student of the Month. Jared is ranked number two in his graduating class and has been recognized for his academic abilities in receiving the Outstanding Student Award for Pre-AP Biology, Pre-AP English II, and Freshman Composition. He was a Link Crew leader his junior year and is currently the secretary for the National Honor Society and will be crowned as a prince of the Peanut Festival in October.
Jared is an active runner participating on the Cross Country team and the Track and Field team and has been recognized as Academic All-District in Cross Country. He is an active member of the Sacred Heart Teen ACTS and Vacation Bible School and has given his time over the holidays as a Salvation Army bell ringer. His strengths are: Competition, Learner, Discipline, Achiever and Futuristic.
Jared plans to attend Texas A&M University – College Station where he intends to major in architecture.
