"Cadets Honor WWII Heroes"
A year ago at Floresville High School, the American Legion Post 38 hosted the "Lest We Forget" tribute remembering the WWII Bataan Death March and the successful Filipino and American raid at Camp Cabanatuan, Philippines, rescuing over 500 Filipino and American POWs. Ensuring the tribute is remembered each year, the FHS ROTC recently completed the first annual 14 mile Bataan Death March hike. After 7 miles Friday afternoon, the Poth VFW Post 8555 fed the 40 participating cadets and hosted a flag disposition ceremony and camp over. Then, before starting the 7 mile hike Saturday morning, the American Legion Post 38, hosted the cadets for breakfast and a flag raising ceremony. Cadets completing the event earned the AFJROTC Bataan Death March and Patriotic Flag ribbons. FHS ROTC would like to thank the Poth VFW and Floresville American Legion for their dedicated support.
