Mrs. Sandra Solis, teacher at the Floresville ECC, has been named Teacher of the Month for October. Here's what her principal, Mrs. Diana Wagner, had to say about her:
"I am so proud and honored to present my first Teacher of the Month, Mrs. Sandra Solis. Mrs. Solis is always positive and greets me each day with a hug and a smile. She is genuinely kind and loves her students. At the beginning of the year, Mrs. Solis was assigned as a Bilingual, Pre-K 4 teacher. She had her classroom of students set up, met all her parents and was just getting into the groove of teaching her new class when she had to make a sudden change: Mrs. Solis had to move to being a monolingual teacher. When I told her the news, her only concern was her students and how much she was going to miss them. She did not want to lose her kids. In such a short time, she had created a bond with these students. However, because of her professionalism and positive attitude, she jumped into action and asked what she needed to do next, reviewed her new roster, called all her existing and incoming families to speak directly to the parents and answer any questions they had. Mrs. Solis handled the move with grace and ease. I am so proud of how she handles any event and how she continues to maintain her focus on the children. I absolutely love working with her and admire her energy and her commitment to the profession. It is an honor to work with Mrs. Solis and I am so proud to have her on my team!"
Mrs. Quinn Garcia, 2nd grade teacher at Floresville South Elementary, is also Teacher of the Month for October. Here's what her principal, Dr. Monica Schlueter, had to say about her:
"Mrs. Garcia is celebrating her 18th year in education and has taught Pre-K through second grade. She also has her ESL certification. Ms. Garcia says, 'Kids are fun. There is never a dull day!' She especially enjoys working here because in Floresville, you really get the ability to build relationships with kids. As a teacher you can go support them at their football games, baseball games, or even spot them at the Floresville H-E-B. Mrs. Garcia says watching her students is like watching her own daughter, Corrinne, take her first steps. 'I get to watch my kids do something for the first time and it emulates pride. It's the community that draws me here and makes me want to stay here.'
Her coworkers report she has a passion in the way that she advocates for all students. She is a natural leader on campus and radiates positivity with her team members and has taken on the role of instructional facilitator for her team with great enthusiasm. In the afternoons, Mrs. Garcia can be found at cone duty conversing and connecting with all students as she loads them into their vehicle. She motivates her students to take ownership of their learning by setting and reaching their Lexia reading goals as they track success in their units. She can be seen every Friday night at a football game cheering in the bleachers and at the softball fields on Tuesday and Friday nights as her husband is coaching football and softball at Floresville High School."
Layne Flieller and Otillia Silva, 5th grade students at FSE, are the Students of the Month for October. Here's what their Dr. Schlueter had to say about them:
"Layne is very involved in and outside of school. He currently has perfect attendance, maintains high grades and leads the Hypewriters Club afterschool on Fridays until 4:30pm. Layne is also very involved with extra curricular activities, including Wildcat football, baseball with Floresville Little League, Spurs Youth Basketball League, and Jiu-Jitsu through the Ultimate Submission Academy. In school, Layne likes to be helpful and learn new things. He is a friendly student and tries to make everybody feel included. He is a hard worker and puts his best effort all of the time. With his family, Layne enjoys hunting deer, freshwater fishing and tent camping. He is learning auto mechanics from his father and helps him work on their family vehicles.
'Tillie,' as her friends call her, is very involved in school and an excellent student with near perfect attendance and high Bs and As. Tillie is involved in many extra curricular activities, including playing soccer with Flowtown Kicks. She is a girl scout with Troop 559 and a Junior Catholic Daughter (JCDA), which is affiliated with the Sacred Heart Church. In addition to this, she loves art, drawing, coloring, and painting. She has the quirkiest, funniest personality and is very kind hearted. She cannot not see someone hurting or crying. She is excited for the Multicultural Club to get started again and is a stellar student in our Dual Language program. She is involved in the community and was in the 2020-2021 Floresville Peanut Court."
